Local Internet Marketing

Website Localization

Marketing your website is a main priority when making a business be successful online. The first thing that you need to consider and apply to your website is localization. By localization I mean generating traffic for your target location (where your business operates).

How many times have you done a search query and had a page of results that are not what you are looking for? Too many I guess. Well you ca do something about that, its not as difficult as you may think. Getting found for the term lets say ‘red widgets’ returns: 7.2 million pages, but adding the location increases the chance of getting found as the pages to compete against has been reduced to: 48 thousand pages.

Red Widgets in Lancashire Example:

If you are a company that sells ‘red widgets’ and your target area is Lancashire, you will never get found for that area if you do not mention ‘Lancashire’ in the content of the page that discusses ‘red widgets’. One way of adding your location in each page is displaying your address on each page.

When a search engine reads and caches the page the next time the spider reads the site it will see that you have mentioned it on the page and you have potential to b found for this location. It works better if you add the entire keyword phrase that you are looking to be found for within a paragraph on the desired page.

e.g. If you are looking for ‘red widgets in Lancashire’, then look no further, ABC widgets can assist you with a huge number of shapes and sizes to suit your needs and requirements.

As you can see by the above example the keyword phrase is within the text on the page. This is a gamble a the article has just been launched but click the link to see where this page is for the term ‘red widgets in lancashire‘. Looking at the amount of search results this page will probably get on the first page.

This gives you an idea on what needs to be done to get a page found for your desired location, this takes me to the next few points:

  • only aim for 2-3 areas that are local to each other (per page)

It is pointless trying to add many areas on one page as it will look spammy to Google and the other search engines.

  • multiple areas

If you have several ares that you are looking to be found for then add several pages that discusses the service / product and area in the content of each page. Each page of content needs to a minimum 40% different to the next page that discusses the next area, this takes practice as not all of us are copywriters but it will make huge difference to getting found for the area(s) and service(s) that you are aiming to be found for on the search engine results pages.

Google Ranking Factors

As we know search engines look for keyword phrases within the content of a page and this goes towards rank with these keyword phrases found. It is not necessary to mention your keyword phrase with your target location many times in fact Matt Cutts who is a Google spam administrator suggests that you only need to mention it 2-3 times on a page.

When writing the content for each area you need to remember to do a minimum of of 250 words per page.

Local Internet Marketing Conclusion:

  • 2-3 areas per page
  • mention the keyword phrase and area 2-3 times on the page
  • 250 words per page (minimum)
  • Each page needs to be different by a minimum of 40% (higher would be better) for the text content on the page. Google does not like similar content on several pages of a site

Good luck and watch the difference in traffic you will receive when you the page(s) are indexed. You will now be found for the exact target keyword phrases and areas that you are looking to be found for. Local Internet Marketing works !
